On 18 July 2019, a group of students from Queenstown secondary school visited Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement company. For many, it was their first time stepping into a corporate office, and they were excited and chatty while waiting for the program to start.

Mr. Ian Chia, Executive Assistant of Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, hosted us for the afternoon. He introduced the company and what ship management is about, and shared his own life experience of how he got himself to the position he is in currently. He mentioned that he took a long way to be where he is now, and wished he had studied harder when he was younger. He also urged the students to listen to their parents, and to put in hard work and effort in their studies because, education creates opportunities!

The students then took turns to share a presentation on what they have learnt during the recent Sailing and Sustainability Program Phase 1. Their key takeaway was teamwork, and it seemed like they had enjoyed themselves based on their fond memories of the 3-day camp, especially the water activities and new friends made. They were shy during the presentation, but it was a very good effort on their part!

The last activity of the day was a tour around the office building owned by the company which had up to eight floors. We were reminded to keep very quiet and be mindful of the staff working. We peered into the open office area of each level as Mr. Ian Chia gave us a brief description of what they do. It was impressive.

We would like to once again thank Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement for graciously hosting us for SSP Phase 2 Industrial Visit!
